If you bought a Weber grill, you might think the best option is to buy the cover they sell to fit it, but often these sell for more than a generic grill cover. Learn what should you look for in a grill cover and when to choose a third-party option.
Price of a Grill Cover
Of course the price of the cover will largely rely on the material that you choose. For those that want heavy duty, fully waterproof and totally tough covers you can expect to pay between $30-$70 (using Wallmart prices). If you just want the grill protected and are willing to go with a cheaper, less durable fabric then you should be able to pick one up for less than $20.
The material of your barbecue grill
Barbecue grills these days are made from either stainless steel, cast iron, or aluminum. Again, each of these has their own set of advantages and disadvantages.
Stainless steel outdoor grills, for instance, are far easier to clean and less prone to rust. However, they can be very expensive. Cast iron grills are more economical and not easily prone to dents. But they are the most susceptible to rusting, especially if you live in a region where you experience a high amount of moisture.
If you’re working on a rather tight budget, barbecue grills made from aluminum steel is a really good option because it gives you the best of both worlds, so to speak. They are easier to clean and durable but still within a reasonable price range.
Straps and Ties
Some BBQ grill covers come with straps for ease of use, others come with ties rather like you might find on the inside of a tent. More commonly your cover will fit snugly around your grill and be secured with the aid of a strip of Velcro. Very rarely do we see button-on covers nowadays.
Just like all things – only the high end models have the perk of storage pockets. Most have them on the inside.
BBQ Covers are mainly available in black or neutral colors but can come in other colors too. We researched the most colorful below for those of you who want a little backyard flare!
What are you planning on cooking on your grill the most frequently? Are you looking to sear steaks or slow-roast a chicken? Grill corn and veggies or flip burgers and hot dogs? All of the above?
Make sure you measure the space for your grill before purchasing it. Keep in mind that your grill should be at least 10 feet away from your house or anything flammable. You should also think about how you will be storing your grill – outside, in a shed, or in the garage.
